Speaking exclusively to CNBC-TV18's Malvika Jain, DoT secretary R Chandrashekhar said that India will witness the next telecom revolution once the auction ends. "A decision has been taken to set the reserve price at 50 percent of the reserve price earlier set for the auction in November in which there were no participants." Chandrashekhar explained that on a pan India-basis, the auction was worth Rs 9,100 crore for all the 22 circles.
"The auction offers 3.75 Mhz in 19 circles and 2.5 Mhz in two circles and in one circle in Rajasthan there is no spectrum being auctioned. In most of the circles, the 3.75 Mhz spectrum is also not contagious."
"All those operators who wish to continue their business have participated in the auction or will participate in March, will be able to continue with their business. Therefore this removes the possibility of any international arbitration," he highlighted.
Chandrashekhar added that the notice-inviting applications (NIA) that are to follow would actually be released by the end of January. "We have planned to commence the auction on March 11 by offering spectrum in the 1800-Mhz band in four circles- Delhi, Mumbai, Karnataka and Rajasthan and 900 Mhz spectrum in the three metros - Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. So, this will be a simultaneous auction as far as Delhi and Mumbai are concerned where both the bands are being placed for auction."
